Eknath Shinde Breaks Silence on Pradeep Purnekar Murder, Promises Strict Action

Eknath Shinde has promised strict action in the Pradeep Purnekar murder case in Thane. As two accused remain in police custody until October 19, Purnekar’s son has threatened a protest and demanded a CBI-CID investigation.

The murder of Pradeep Purnekar, a divisional chief of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) faction in Thane, has stirred the city’s political atmosphere over the past several days. Serious allegations have been levelled against local leaders of the Shiv Sena led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in connection with the case. Nearly two weeks after the murder, Shinde has finally spoken out, assuring that strict action will be taken against the accused.

Speaking at a press conference on the Pradeep Purnekar murder case, Eknath Shinde was asked about the incident. He said, “The murder of Pradeep Purnekar is extremely unfortunate. The Police Commissioner has been instructed to conduct an impartial investigation into the case. No one will be protected. Strict action will be taken against the accused.” Through this statement, Shinde sought to reassure the Purnekar family that the investigation would proceed without favouritism and that those responsible would face strict action.

Purnekar’s Son Threatens Protest Outside Shinde’s Residence

Ram Purnekar, son of Pradeep Purnekar, has warned that the family will continue its fight until justice is delivered. He said that if justice is not secured before the conclusion of the Navratri festival, he will stage a protest outside Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s residence in Thane.

Meanwhile, a Thane court has remanded two accused arrested in Uttar Pradesh in connection with Pradeep Purnekar’s murder to police custody until October 19. The accused have been identified as Santosh Kanojia alias Talli and Amit Singh alias Paplu.

The two were produced before the court on Monday, following which Senior Police Inspector Shailesh Salvi of the Thane Anti-Extortion Squad sought 14 days of police custody for them.

The police informed the court that the mobile phones belonging to the accused and the clothes allegedly worn during the commission of the crime were yet to be seized. Investigators also need to obtain details of transactions in their bank accounts and determine whether anyone provided them with financial assistance.

After hearing the submissions, the court remanded Santosh Kanojia alias Talli and Amit Singh alias Paplu to police custody until October 19.

With the family demanding accountability and a wider investigation, the case has drawn attention to the allegations against local political figures, while the police continue their investigation into the murder and the possible financial links of the accused.
